{"id":10118,"date":"2023-07-11T21:42:18","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T20:42:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in-italy.eu\/uncategorized\/nelle-acque-della-sardegna-arrivano-le-balene\/"},"modified":"2023-12-14T13:04:48","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T12:04:48","slug":"whales-arrive-in-the-waters-of-sardinia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in-italy.eu\/en\/in-tendenza-en\/whales-arrive-in-the-waters-of-sardinia\/","title":{"rendered":"Whales arrive in the waters of Sardinia: tourists are left breathless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seemed to be just an ancient legend, instead that of whales swimming in the sea of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sardegnaturismo.it\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sardinia<\/a> is more than reality.<br \/>\nInitially it was thought to be just fishermen&#8217;s tales, however, thanks to the work of researchers in the project &#8220;Sardinia, the Forgotten Giants,&#8221; the first signals of sperm <strong>whales<\/strong> were recorded with hydrophones.<br \/>\nThis took place in the so-called <strong>Sardinian Canyon of Castelsardo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Marine megafauna expert for WWF, <strong>Laura Pintore<\/strong>, and Oceans program leader, <strong>Giulia Prato<\/strong>, showed their excitement at hearing the sperm whale click.<\/p>\n<p>It would appear that the presence of this marine species was recorded as many as 7 times in a very few days.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The program included a research activity using innovative technologies to investigate the possible presence of cetaceans in the deep gorge, which descends from the center of the gulf from the continental slope in a northwesterly direction.<br \/>\nFor such research, equipment such as drones, hydrophones and even environmental DNA detection kits have been heavily engaged.<br \/>\nA group of videomakers is recording all phases of the project, and then making a documentary that will later be available on international platforms.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>The Canyons of Sardinia<\/h5>\n<p>Castelsardo, in addition to having signed the <strong>Pelagos Sanctuary<\/strong> Partnership Charter, and collaborating with the <strong>R!se project<\/strong>, has gained recognition for its Canyon.<br \/>\nIn fact, Castelsardo Canyon has been included in the &#8220;10 areas for new and enhanced protection&#8221; identified by\u00a0WWF\u00a0in\u00a0Italy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It seemed to be just an ancient legend, instead that of whales swimming in the sea of Sardinia is more than reality.
