Gianni Minà, born in Turin on May 17, 1938, and died in Rome on March 27, 2013, was a successful journalist writer and television host.
“I was shy, I became a journalist to lose shyness, and thanks to this work I participated in the most beautiful season that Italian society has had in the last half century.”
These are the words of the great journalist in an interview given in 2019.

In the course of his long professional career Minà became friends, after telling their stories, with the likes of Fidel Castro, Pope Francis, Diego Armando Maradona and Pietro Mennea, Muhammad Ali, the Dalai Lama, Martin Scorsese and Sergio Leone, passing through the Beatles, García Marquez, Massimo Troisi, and Marco Pantani.
“Gianni Minà – A Journalist’s Life” the documentary signed by the journalist’s wife, Loredana Macchietti, will be in theaters June 26, 27 and 28. Produced by Format with Rai Cinema, with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture.
Macchietti explained that the idea of making this docufilm was born in 2008, during a party, when Minà expressed his interest in having a script written about his professional life.
At that point, the situation became quite difficult since Minà in 60 years had had experiences and had anecdotes to tell.
We dive into a 60-year career story, told by colleagues, and friends such as Renzo Arbore and Edoardo Vianello.
The great Gianni established special relationships with those he narrated, from Maradona to Sepulveda.
The docufilm starts right from Minà’s hometown of Turin, and which consecrated him as a journalist in 1959 at Tutto Sport.
There his great love for the Torino soccer team was also born.
Next, it was on to Rome, where the journalist moved as soon as he began working for Rai.
For Rai, the Turin-based journalist reported on major sporting events such as the World Cup and the Olympics, as well as countless boxing matches, including one between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, who even welcomed him into the locker room.
